Worship Lyrics

October 24, 2009

Do you want a worship song to make you think?  I feel like so many worship songs say things using the same phrases that we have said in church for so many years.  I’m not saying change the message but do we as writers of worship music have a responsibility to use our art to let the message be heard by new ears or with new perspective.  On the other side you could say that too much poetry in worship just complicates the matter.

There is so much music out there, and so many writers, I just really want to know what you think about this.

  1. I don’t “think” of corporate worship so much in terms of thinking, but rather an awakening of the collective spirits of the body of Christ to the presence of the Holy Spirit. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24. The same song can be done by two different artists/groups: one is performing a song, displaying talent or skill; the other is worshiping. Nic Slade Band are worshipers! You can’t help but worship because that is the life that God has breathed into dead bones! Be filled with the Word, soak in it, and He will pour it out of you in fresh ways. Go with what God gives you and don’t worry about whether it makes people think or not. What you want is the anointing of the Holy Spirit of God flowing through your spirit and resonating with the spirits of those who come to worship with you. Keep doing that and keep pressing into God and asking Him for more of it. More God, more. When you exhaust the well of God’s grace and love, let us know. :-) Love you brother. Chris
